Jeff Guaracino, President & CEP, Visit Philadelphia
As president and CEO of VISIT PHILADELPHIA, Jeff Guaracino is charged with building the region’s image, driving visitation and boosting the economy. In 2017 alone, the Greater Philadelphia region welcomed 43.3 million people, and 88% of them were here for a leisure purpose. Guaracino, who assumed the role in October 2018, has a 20-year track record of success in tourism and organizational management. His expertise is in growth, change and crisis with career-defining moments coming from taking on difficult challenges, developing new markets to increase tourism and expanding organizational capacity and impact.
Joshua Upin, Esq.Counsel, Royer Cooper Cohen Braunfeld LLC
Joshua maintains a diverse business focused law practice at Royer Cooper Cohen Braunfeld LLC’s Philadelphia office. He works across a range of disciplines which include intellectual property rights management for companies and individuals operating in the media, arts & entertainment fields, commercial litigation and real estate finance and development. He also frequently counsels both early stage and mature companies looking to raise or invest capital. Prior to becoming a lawyer Joshua lived and worked in Europe managing the alt-rock band Menlo Park. He was also a founding member of MPM London, a music production company which provides original composition and intermediary licensing services for motion picture advertising, film and television clients. Joshua graduated Summa Cum Laude from Temple University with a B.A. in English; received an LL.B. in British and EU Law from the London School of Economics; and a J.D. from the University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law. He is a passionate advocate, “left-brainer,” and a devout believer in the power of the entrepreneurial spirit.
Omar G. Mencin, DBA, Director of Investments, Information Technology, Ben Franklin
Omar Mencin, DBA, is an experienced venture capital and private equity investor, entrepreneur, and business accelerator founder and CEO. In his role with Ben Franklin, Omar is responsible for sourcing deals, managing due diligence, negotiating deal terms, and serving as a board observer and portfolio manager. During his tenure at Ben Franklin and in investment roles prior, he has led over 30 seed to Series A equity and convertible debt investments across the e-commerce, digital media, Ed-Tech, wearable technology, Finetch, Blockchain, and healthcare IT sectors including Practice (acquired by Instructure), Ridekleen (Acquired by COX Automotive), Snip Snap (acquired by Slyce), and Clarity Payment Systems (Acquired by TYSYS). He has also led Ben Franklin fund to fund investments in partner accelerator programs such as the UPENN based EDSI ED-Tech accelerator program, the Philadelphia Media Network (Philadelphia Inquirer) Project Liberty Incubator, and the DreamIT Ventures Accelerator
Gregory L. Seltzer, JD, MBA, CPA, Ballard Spahr LLP
Gregory L. Seltzer is an experienced transactional attorney who utilizes and combines his knowledge of legal, accounting, and business principles to provide comprehensive, practical, and creative business law services. He holds an MBA, is a Certified Public Accountant (currently inactive), and previously worked as an auditor and tax consultant for Ernst & Young, LLP.
He concentrates his practice on public and private merger and acquisition transactions, including private equity and venture capital financing transactions, securities offerings, and spin-out transactions
Ellen Weber, Executive Director of Temple University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute & Executive Director of Robin Hood Ventures
Ellen Weber joined the Fox School of Business as an Assistant Professor in the Strategic Management department. She serves as the Executive Director of Temple University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute and Mid-Atlantic Diamond Ventures. Her areas of interest include funding early-stage companies, entrepreneurial ecosystems and women’s entrepreneurship.
She is also the Executive Director of Robin Hood Ventures, a leading angel group helping to fuel startup growth in the Philadelphia region. She is very active in the Philadelphia startup community, supporting Philly Startup Leaders, PACT, and the Alliance of Women Entrepreneurs
